Tiger Woods to put 2024 Bridgestone Tour B X golf ball in play at Genesis

Published

on

While we’re waiting for a look at Tiger Woods’ full WITB, we can report Woods will have a new golf ball in play when he tees it up at this week’s Genesis Invitational.

More specifically, TW is switching into the the 2024 Bridgestone Tour B X golf ball. Last time we saw Woods in action, at the 2023 PNC Challenge, the 15-time major winner still had the previous generation of the Tour B X in play. Prior to 2022, Woods had played the company’s Tour B XS ball, owing to his preference for more spin, but after a launch monitor session at home revealed 10 yards of additional distance with the Tour B X.

“I am always seeking more distance off the tee and more control around the green, that’s the Holy Grail, and what Bridgestone’s delivered with the new Tour B X,” Woods said. “I tell people all the time how important it is to get ball fit, and if you’ve been fit, to get fit again. Bridgestone re-fit me into the new Tour B X, and it’s got a little more pop off the tee and the control I need around the greens.”

Bridgestone will launch Tiger Woods Edition Tour B golf balls on February 16. The ball is the exact same model Woods plays (which, per Bridgestone, is the retail Tour B X) and features ‘Tiger” on the side stamp.

Justin Thomas changes putters between rounds at WM Phoenix Open

Published

on

Between the first and second rounds of the WM Phoenix Open, PGA Tour star Justin Thomas made a putter switch.

Poor putting has been Thomas’ Achilles’ heel since his last win at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, and it was more of the same to begin his week at TPC Scottsdale.

In the first round, Thomas lost 1.09 strokes putting, which was ranked 99th in the field. However, in the second round, JT bounced back with the new putter, gaining 2.02 strokes putting.

Thomas had begun the event with a new Scotty Cameron T-5 putter but reverted to his Scotty Cameron X5 flatstick.

After the round, Thomas spoke to the media about the switch.

“I hit like three 6-irons and one or two drivers. I hit more putts than anything, because like I said, that’s what I felt like held me back this morning. Actually, I used a different — a very similar style but a different putter the first round and then switched in between rounds.

“The putter I went back to the second round is my gamer, the one I’ve used for a long time and had a lot of success with. The one that I used this morning was just the new model of it.

“I had no intention of using it, but honestly my putter felt so bad the first couple days this week, after Pebble last week, that I just — I was putting with it, and it felt good. My speed was good with it. I was starting it on line. I wept with it. I felt like I had a lot better chance of making putts with that than the other one. I have full faith I would have putted the same with the other putter, but there’s something about using something you’re comfortable with.”

Thomas ended up finishing in a tie for 11th.
