   For those questioning his putting forgot he hit it stiff on the playoff hole. Duffner had a super long putt.
   Good luck to him with that putter for the moment I’m just happy watching him stripe his driver down the middle. What an awesome swing.

     It’s not the putter length that’s banned…it’s the anchoring. I would love to learn to get rid of a real man putter length so I didn’t have to bend over and think of what else I could do while I am down there. Just my two cents’ worth. We all can’t have Michelle Wie’s agility!

     You haters really need to read the USGA’s rule change. ALL belly and broomstick putters will still be 100% legal in 2016; players just won’t be allowed to anchor them anymore. More importantly, when did golf become a real MAN’s game? This retired Marine would love to be able to play as well as the worst players on the LPGA or Champions Tour! And how many strokes would some of these teenage girls have to give you “Real Men”?

         No. I’m sure the USGA and R&A have their reasons but the fact is, if it was such an unfair advantage, everyone would be using it. Putting is so personal and I personally find it weird to putt with such a long putter. Did Dufner have an unfair advantage with the superstroke grip? would he have made that bomb on 18? he just hit a good putt with a good read and a little luck. Good golf all round.

           No one called him a cheater. It is after all within the rules of golf (for now). And yes Dufner did have the option of using a long putter should he have chosen to. Yes the super stroke grip, the high moi/mallet putter, seemore putter or whatever could be considered cheating or an unfair edge, but fact remains those types of clubs still have to be swung, not pivoted around an anchor point. Sure the broom stick only turned Scott from a terrible putter to an average putter stats wise but golf being a game of inches even a slight improvement could mean a difference of several hundred thousand dollars of earnings, as was evident in this tournament. Does he make that putt without the long stick, maybe but his odds would have been a lot less.
           If you were Dufner it would probably stick in your craw a bit, no? Losing to a guy using a club essentially that’s been declared illegal by a single stroke??

           Also, I don’t appreciate being called a moron. Have a nice life.

     Well considering anchoring the putter will no longer be allowed starting in 2016 that seems to imply the USGA and R&A have deemed it an unfair advantage. Never the less its still legal and any player can still use that method if they so desire. Personally I don’t think its an unfair advantage or all players would be doing it and the USGA and R&A just simply don’t like the way it looks.

       Yes it is still legal. But, I would argue that players don’t use the long putters because of stigma or because they don’t want to devote time to learning a new stroke knowing it will be banned in a few years, not because it doesn’t confer an advantage. Also, most on tour are better putters than Scott was pre- broomstick, so the benefits he has reaped are proportionately higher.

       For amateurs playing for fun there are reasons to use long putters (back problems, yips, increased longevity with the game, more fun, etc) but I would argue it’s not just how the putters look that bother them it’s the fact that you have to make the competition about skills not about major advantages due to equipment. I would argue it’s no difference than one player using a pro v1 and another using a ball of 1960s vintage.

   Not going to help Titty sell their 714 MBs, is it? He’s playing the good ol’ stuff! Goes to show you, there is no need to keep making minuscule changes when it’s fine the way it is. Just release the same one for ever, but put the year it was made so that grooves and wear can match. There’d be plenty of players who would keep buying/playing what they love.

      I’m guessing looking at the design they flight the ball a little lower than the 710’s and he was probably looking for a more penetrating flight.
